Building a culture of recognition is one of the foundations of employee engagement.

Send out a survey with the names and photos of the colleagues you're nominating for the "Employee of the Month" award in a given period. Put the decision in your colleagues' hands. Let them vote on who they think deserves the recognition most that month.

Why is it good for the company?

  • It offers a fair and transparent solution to a question as sensitive as awarding employer prizes and recognition.
  • By involving everyone, it strengthens trust in management.
  • It supports a company culture built on peer recognition and strengthens the work community.
  • It creates healthy competition among colleagues, encouraging them to give their best, since colleagues can see who works hard and who doesn't.

Why is it good for the employees?

  • They can cast their vote for the nominees simply and securely. They can vote even if they wouldn't be comfortable doing so publicly.
  • Nominees get greater visibility, whether they win the vote or not. Their nomination — and the performance behind it — already reaches their colleagues and every member of management.
  • Being nominated for the award is in itself positive feedback from their manager and HR. It confirms that they're doing their job well, that people are happy with their work, and it encourages them to keep it up.
  • Both the nomination and winning the award can reassure the employee that they have career opportunities within the company.
